Former Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has been appointed as the new CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
Following his appointment that was effective on 25th March, 2022, Mutua wrote on his twitter page. “I have received with profound gratitude my appointment to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). Happy to rejoin the creative industry, this time not as a regulator, but as a promoter and defender of the rights of musicians.”
In 2010 Mutua was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear(MBS) by former President Mwai Kibaki. He has also served in several boards of State Corporations in Kenya, including the Kenya Copyright Board, the Media Council of Kenya, the Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat, the Brand Kenya Board and the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
Mutua stepped down as the KFCB boss last year after serving for a two-three year term since 2015. During his tenor as CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board, Mutua had set stringent measures that saw some content and music banned in Kenya’s local media, causing a backlash from the creators/ artist and praise from a section of Kenyans.
