Gospel Music Producer Agundabweni Akweyu and gospel singer Evelyn Wanjiru welcomed their first child on 6th April 2022. The couple welcomed a bouncing baby boy named Mshindi AKweyu Agundabweni and could not hide their excitement. The couple has been married for ten years and have been struggling to get a child.

In an exclusive interview with Bwenieve Digital, the couple expressed their excitement of welcoming their first baby and talked of their pregnancy journey. “I was out of the Country when I discovered I was pregnant.” Evelyn recalls. “I was having the symptoms, throwing up, tiredness and a friend of mine suggested I take a pregnancy test. I was anxious and after waiting for some time I saw the two lines confirming my pregnancy. I was excited and called my husband to give him the good news.” She said. “When she called me and told me the news, I was overwhelmed with emotions. I asked her to repeat the test and I also told her when she comes back to the country we would go for a proper checkup.” He recalled.

The couple shared their life experience and baby journey in a documentary on you-tube. During the time she found out she was pregnant, the family was in mourning after losing the patriarch of the family, Agundabweni’s father, and this was good news for them.

Evelyn said her cravings were not weird but she loved mangoes especially those from Ukambani. There was one time her husband had to drive all the way to Machakos to bring her beloved mangoes. They acknowledged that there was always pressure to have children, especially for them because they are in the limelight, and some fans would go overboard and throw around insensitive comments, but they always kept their calm and trusted in God.

Agundabweni said the love they have for each other, faith in God and understanding each other plays a key role in their marriage. They also had a support system of friends and family who did not judge them.

It was also a learning process for both of them as they prepared to be first time parents. “There was a time I was talking about buying a ‘mucking tosh’, the one you can lay the baby on and change dippers and my husband thought I was talking of computers.” She said. Agundabweni admitted that he is always searching on internet and asking his friends who have kids on certain things about babies.

During her baby bump photo shoot, Evelyn recalled that she was surprised by her friends and husband who organized a surprise baby shower party for her. “I had not expected it. I knew I was going for a photo shoot at Asyana Gardens in Rongai and when we arrived there, I saw decorations for a baby shower. I admired it and thought how lucky the mother to be was. Little did I know that it was my baby shower party.”  She said.

Evelyn encouraged women who are in a childless marriage to trust in God and never give up hope. “Look at me, ten years in marriage and I am now blessed.” She said. Agundabweni encouraged couples to be supportive to one another and trust in God.

Congratulations to the new parents in town and all the best to their growing family.
