Kenyan Doctors Perform First Erectile Dysfunction Surgery In The Region

A man in his 40’s is the first to undergo Erectile Dysfunction Correction Surgery in Kenya after suffering for years. The surgery that took 60 minutes was done at the Aga Khan Hospital.

The surgery has been seen as a break through in helping men facing similar medical challenges. People shun away from talking about Erectile Dysfunction. It is estimated that 15%- 20% of men suffer from this condition. The causes of Erectile Dysfunction can be High Blood Pressure, depression, obesity and shortage of blood in the penis.

This is the first time for this procedure to be conducted in the East and Central Africa regions because it requires a rare specialised expertise, a speciality in urology.

Surgeries in Kenya that have been the first and a milestone include; Hip replacement surgery in 2021, Brain surgery in 2018, the surgery of the conjoined twins in 2017, Liver surgery in 2015 just to mention a few.

The cost of the procedure is between Sh800,000 and Sh1 million.
