The diversity in Gospel music is all about feeling good. The industry is full of songs of different genres and styles. Including contemporary, classic, rhumba, fork, pop, rock and reggae just to mention a few to praise God. It only depends on the taste and culture of people.
Ian The Voice had a chat with Reuben Kigame a gospel singer, writer, producer, radio presenter and politician to get the gist of the diverse styles in Gospel Music and the Business and Ministry in the Industry.
Reuben Kigame started his singing career when he was young. When attending church services at his local church. It is then that he discovered he had a passion for music and found his niche.
“The diversity in the music style in Gospel should not be used to judge each other. You cannot put God in a small box and narrow Him down. He is the author of expression.” Said Reuben.
He added that God is loved in different ways in different cultures. “He is loved in Jamaica through reggae, in the USA through hip-hop and rock, In Conga through African Rhumba, Benga in Nyanza region, Mwomboko in Central Kenya and the list goes on.” He explained.
He also gave a break down on hymns, psalms and how christian music can be used for entertainment and evangelism. “Hymns focuses on praising God while Psalms focus is on individuals and expression towards God. Spiritual songs are reflective in nature. Evangelistic music draws people to God. Christian music has also entertainment making the heart glad. Its music that touches the spirit and makes you feel better.” He expounded.
While talking about music business and gospel ministry, Reuben explained that things cannot be done half heatedly but one can carry out honest business. He cautioned on exploiting people.
Reuben Kigame is famously known for inspiring songs such as Bwana ni Mchungaji Wangu, Huniachi featuring Gloria Muliro and Ombi Langu featuring Sifa Voices among others.
