Nairobi Railway Museum

Nairobi, Kenya’s largest city and capital, implores diversity in romance and puts forward exalted adventure. It is known as the City under the Sun and is the only city in the globe that brags a safari park, The Nairobi National Park.

But if you want to go back into the ancient times and witness exhibition of railway systems in time, then the Nairobi Railway Museum is the place to visit. It is adjacent to the railway station. The Museum collection includes; East African Railways, three operational steam locomotives that are securely stored by the railway works. One of the display locomotives, 301 (2301) was used in the 1985 movie, Out of Africa, and visitors must request an appointment to view them. The early diesel locomotives and passenger coaches and it also consists of a locomotive with a petrol-engine, and several coaches made of wood.

The museum is opened daily from 8 AM – 5 PM Kenyan time including weekends and public holidays. Entry fee is only Ksh 500 equivalent to $8 for residents and Ksh 600 equivalent to $10 for non residents. Students and children are given a discount.
