Salt and Light is an event that gathers people to worship and praise God. The event was hosted by Gospel Singer Mercy Masika on Sunday 3rd, April at Chandaria Centre at the University of Nairobi.
“My dream is that we will have young people who live for Jesus as Salt and Light. We will not just sing songs, but live the life that we profess in our songs. It is all about putting your investment in Heaven.” Mercy explained.
The Bible in the book of Matthew 5: 13-16; Likens us to the salt of the earth and the light of the world but we have no value if we lose the taste and the light respectively. (You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. …)
Mercy also preached of the five foolish and five wise virgins who were waiting for the bridegroom. However, the five foolish virgins were not prepared to receive the groom and ran out of oil before the bridegroom arrived. They had to go buy some oil and when they were away, the bridegroom arrived and the doors were closed. They were not allowed to enter the wedding banquet.
Matthew 25: 10-13. But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’ “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Mercy likened Jesus to the Bridegroom and the oil to the Holy Spirit that guides us. “We should have intentional, discipline to learn about God and yearn for Him. Imagine how much time you spend with your spouse to grow your relationship. Then shouldn’t you invest more of yourself to God?” She asked.
The event witnessed young worship leaders across Kenya and East Africa who led in praise and showcased their talent. “The highlight for me in the whole event was watching other worship leaders and talented young singers from East Africa shinning and leading others to Jesus through music.” She said.
The event will be held every first Sunday of every month. Although the focus is in Nairobi, they hope to reach other areas and across East Africa.
