Sim Card Registration Experiences Confusion As Deadline Approaches

The deadline for sim card registration is approaching fast and Kenyans have been thrown to confusion as they receive contradicting messages in sim card registration.

Saturday last week, the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) had said that Kenyans can check their registration status by dialling *106#. Yesterday Tuesday, Kenyans woke up to a shocking revelation to another message of not being registered despite the confirmation message they had received earlier of their sim registration when they dialled *106#

This has left many Kenyans confused and sim card dealer shops (Safaricom and Airtel) have experienced long queues as the deadline 15th April approaches.

Most Kenyans don’t understand why they have to register their sim cards again because they believe when they bought their sim cards they were registered. However, CAK Director General Ezra Chiloba says that the ongoing registration is not new in the country.

Some Kenyans have complied with the directives while others have developed cold feet as they question the process and reasons for registration.

Chiloba in his address stated that the process is to ensure that Kenyans are protected from fraud and crime related to sim cards such as money transaction.
