We live in a world, where technology has advanced, and everything we want to know, see or have is a click away. We live in times where people compare themselves to others and compete.
The social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchats just to mention a few, have become avenues where people post their daily activities. Just like how in the past we used to pen down our thoughts on diaries. People post and comment on issues on social media, to create an image and a projection that may not have a resemblance to reality of their situation.
People who want to compare themselves to public figures and dress up like a particular influencer, or show off what they have despite not being able to afford the lifestyle they are portraying on social media platforms may be suffering from imposter syndrome. It is the fear to accept ones self of who you are that leads to people portraying themselves in a certain way. People are tempted to fall into sin of theft when they see those who they studied with are doing so well in life from their post yet for them they are struggling to make ends meet.
The pressure of expectation from society and fear of being seen as a failure will lead a person to act in a certain way or fall into temptation of proving themselves. John 7:5 KJV For neither did his brethren believe in him. Jesus own brothers did not believe in his mission to the world, yet they had grown up with him and knew him better than other people. They wanted proof for them to confirm he is the Messiah despite the many miracles he performed, but on a positive note, two of his brothers James and Jude became believers and they wrote the books in the New Testament in their respective names.
When you do something to prove it, it takes away the joy of doing it or the sincerity of your actions. For example, if you are contributing more money for funeral just to show off to your relatives, you’re doing it to receive praises then it doesn’t make you better than the others. In fact it diminishes your worth. Jesus did not perform miracles because of himself but to show the glory of God and to fulfil his purpose in saving the children of God from their sins.
Find out your purpose in life, and what you need to do to achieve it. Do you need to purposely stay away from some people? Purposely stop thinking about something’s? Or purposely stop comparing yourself to others. Whatever your findings will be remember that God has great plans and thoughts for you and all you have to do is reach out to Him for directions.
Jeremiah 29:11 KJV For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
