Supreme Court To Make A Ruling On BBI On Thursday
The much awaited decision by the Supreme Court on The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) case is likely to cause a shift in the political landscape ahead of the August 9th polls.
President Kenyatta, Raila and DP Ruto- who opposed the BBI proposals are waiting to see which way the Apex court’s will rule to determine their next step in the campaign trail. The Court of Appeal had declared BBI unconstitutional, on August 25, 2021.
It was a constitutional review process championed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga to ‘cure the country’s winner-takes-all syndrome’. However the High Court and Court of Appeal stopped what had been dubbed as the reggae.
The Supreme Court will deliver its judgement on Thursday on seven issues that had been framed during the appeal. Lawyers argue that the seven judge bench may go for a win – win rule to stabilize the Coutry ahead of the polls.
